Welcome to my site!

What I Do at Work...

Since 2001, I work at Santa Clara University, in a joint appointment at the Department of Education and at the Center for Science, Technology, and Society.

NEWS! I was granted tenure and promotion in spring 2008. The letter that made it official arrived April 4th, 2008. Celebrations are still ongoing... As of September, 2008 I will be Associate Professor in the Department of Education. My job at the Center is unaffected by this change.

This picture was taken at the Electronic Portfolio Laboratory (Bannan Hall 211), which I set up in 2003 thanks to a grant from the Fletcher Jones Foundation. It has become a great resource for all students and faculty in our teacher preparation and MA programs, as well as for students and faculty from other departments on campus.

Outside of Work...

Contrary to popular belief, academics don't have a lot of free time. Between teaching (and preparing to teach), grading papers, advising students, directing programs, doing research, serving in committees, attending (and sometimes planning) events and conferences, doing work-related service within and outside the university, and a host of other things, hobbies and even family time sometimes suffer from lack of attention. However... I am fortunate to have a family that continually reminds me there are more important things to do than work (which may be easier to believe once I get tenure!).
